Radiometrics
Radiometer continuously profiles temperature and water vapor to 10 km height, by observing 5 channels from 22 to 30 GHz, and 7 channels from 51 to 59 GHz (winner of the 1999 R&D100 Award). It also provides a liquid water profile of one cloud layer. These measurements can be used to improve high resolution forecasting including dispersion, fog and precipitation forecasting, to improve artillery accuracy, and to observe aircraft icing hazards.
